AND THEN THE WATER TURNED HEAVY [IABR]

Collaborating with the International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam on the theme of thirst, we investigated water desalination sites and produced a multi-channel video installation. Situated in The Hague, two desalination narratives are contrasted to reflect on water politics. On the screen, we overlay slogans from desalination companies with investigative videos of test facilities. In the projection, we give voice to marine life, in a speculative future when infrastructure is scaled up and increasing amounts of waste brine are pumped back into the sea, making the coastline environment saltier and noisier, ultimately unlivable.
