TOKYO REVISITED [MAXXI]
The exhibition invites visitors to revisit Tokyo through the street photography of Daido Moriyama and Shomei Tomatsu. The off-angle walls recreating narrow alleys connect intimate spaces for subtle images of Tomatsu with open areas covered with striking wallpaper reproductions of Moriyama’s shots. Narrow vertical labels dot the space with cadence and reinforce the vivid informality of street photography. Custom extra-bold typography marks the central space of the exhibition, with its fill not completely black, referencing the grain and unpredictability of high-ISO moving night photos.
